Since the 1960s, The Topsham Art Group has been welcoming people who have a common love of the visual arts, and have aimed to encourage its practice and appreciation. The membership of 150 includes amateur and professional artists, and others who simply enjoy art and like to broaden their knowledge and understanding. The artists amongst us work in a wide range of media including watercolour, oil, pastel, acrylic, gouache and sculpture.
Meetings are very varied - they include artists’ presentations and demonstrations, aspects of art history or critiques of members’ works and presentations by knowledgeable guests. They are held monthly on the fourth Friday evening between 6.30 and 9 p.m. Notices are given out before the talks start promptly at 7.00 p.m. The meetings are at Topsham School, Orchard Way, Topsham, EX3 0DN
Demonstrations and workshops by professional artists are held during the year, usually in Topsham. These are a great opportunity for beginners and intermediaries to learn and develop their own style through the help of experienced artists, and offer the opportunity to try out different ideas and media.
The Annual Exhibition is one of the highlights of the Topsham Art Group. This is held at Topsham School during the first fortnight of August, and offers the members the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work. There are occasional other exhibitions within Topsham
The membership year runs from January to December, and subscriptions must be paid before by 1 January. Subscription rates are reviewed and set annually. The subscription for 2016 is £20 per person and fees are due by January 1. Members may bring guests to the evening meetingswho are charged of £3 per meeting.
